Urgent info you need to know when travelling to Cape Town:
The Western Cape was declared a disaster area in May 2017 due to the drought crisis we are experiencing. Cape Town receives winter rain. June, July and August have the highest rainfall. For the past 3 years, the annual rainfall has been excessively low. As a result, the outlook for the coming months is critical. Our water dam levels are currently (December 2017) at 25% usable water as we head into the hottest season of the year. In 2014, our dams were at 91% at this time of year. The City of Cape Town has just issued a notice that as of January 2018, the current level 5 water restrictions will be increased to level 6! What this means is that we may not use municipal tap water to:
- wash cars
- water gardens
- water indoor plants
- wash window etc…
- top up swimming pools
- shower for longer than 2min per day
- leave the tap running while brushing teeth
- flush the toilet after every use (I know this sounds gross, but a life without water is far worse than reducing the amount of times we flush.
- exceed 87 liters of water per day
To put this into perspective a bit… A normal washing machine uses about 40 liters of water per load. Flushing a toilet uses about 14 liters per flush. Flush 6 times in 1 day and you only have 3 liters left for the entire day and you haven’t even had a sip of water yet or made a cup of coffee.
Please respect the Western Cape laws when visiting our drought stricken area. You might only be visiting for a week or two and will be back home when day zero arrives for the rest of us who live here. Please take 2 min to imagine having to go just 1 day without water before you open our taps.
The current prediction is that Cape Town will have run out of usable water by April 2018!
Normas del alojamientoMy apartment is non smoking.
I own a cat which means my apartment is not ideal for anyone with cat allergies. Guests need to pay attention not to let my cat get out as he is an indoor cat.

Location is not in center of CT, but a nice haven to stay. The place was clean, well equipped and has a lot of space to use. Renate is very kind and helpful. I felt immediately like at home, safe and secure and overall protected and entertained by this unbelieavable cat. I´ll be back next year.
